Mu mbai, July 27: Maharashtra’s anti-terrorist squad today traced the email allegedly sent by the Indian Mujahideen, a little-known terror group that claimed responsibility for the Ahmedabad serial blasts yesterday, to an American family living in a Navi Mumbai highrise.

The 14-page email was sent from the address alarbi_Gujarat@yahoo.com. The Internet protocol address was traced to Kenneth Heywood of Gunina Housing Society, Sector 2, Sanpada. Heywood is a resident of flats 1503/1504, C Wing.

A TV channel had claimed yesterday that it received the threat mail five minutes before the first of the 16 blasts in Ahmedabad. STAR News said it had received a mail at 9pm. It is not clear if the two mails are identical or, if not, which one had police traced to Navi Mumbai.

Built last year, Gunina is a multi-storeyed housing complex on Palm Beach Road, an upscale neighbourhood in Navi Mumbai.

ATS teams that reached the top floor of C Wing just after midnight found the two flats in the name of Delhi-based couple Abhishek and Mamta Sharma had been rented out to an American family. The family claimed innocence and said their account had been hacked, sources said.

ATS chief Hemant Karkare refused to give details of the investigations. “We have conducted multiple searches. The investigations are still on,” he said.

Karkare said his squad had asked Mumbai police to step up security at malls and places of worship. Security has been tightened at the Bombay Stock Exchange because of a warning in the email. It threatened more attacks in Mumbai and specifically mentioned the stock exchange, which was targeted during the March 1993 serial explosions and has been on the terror hit list ever since.

Mumbai police commissioner Hassan Gafoor suggested the email might be fake when he said: “Some inconsistencies and discrepancies have cropped up in the email probe. It is too early to comment. We have sent it for forensic analysis. There was a generalised threat perception to the BSE, and we have stepped up security as a precautionary measure.”

The email also threatened industrialist Mukesh Ambani, chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and home minister R.R. Patil.

“Don’t think we are unaware of the SRPF attacks on our masjids and our homes, the insult of our Quran, and your enmity (sic) with the Muslims in Digras and nearby areas in Yavatmal, and of the burning alive of three Muslims in Jalna with the backing of the police….We wonder at your memory. Have you forgotten the evening of July 11 2006 so quickly and so easily?” it asked the politicians.

The Reliance Industries chairman was singled out because he is building his new 27-storey home on a plot that was originally wakf land. “We also alert Mukesh Ambani to think twice before usurping and building a citadel on a land in Mumbai that belongs to the Wakf Board, lest it turns into horrifying memories for you which you will never ever forget,” the email warned.

The email also referred to the 1992-93 communal riots. “You try to fool us in the name of fast-track courts made for ’93 riot case, through which you wish to free the actual Hindu culprits like Madhukar Sarpotdar, who was caught redhanded with illegal firearms, while innocent Muslims arrested in the bomb blasts case are being tried in the courts for years and years,” it said.

“So wait… Await now….! Wait only for five minutes from now! …” is what a mail sent to a few media channels and newspapers has said just minutes before the blasts rocked the city.

Claiming responsibility for the serial blasts, a little known group called the ‘Indian Mujahideen’ claimed responsibility for the blasts.

The e-mail sent from alarbi_gujarat@yahoo.com id also said that Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, R. R. Patil and Mukesh Ambani are also on their target list.

Attacking the Maharashtra government the mail said, “We wonder at your memory. Have you forgotten the evening of 7/11/2006 (Mumbai serial blasts) so quickly and so easily?” — PTI

The email sent by the terror group, just minutes before the serial blasts, has been traced to Mumbai.

The anti-terrorism squad has been in the city’s Palm beach area, investigating the source of the email.

The home ministry has said the group needs to be investigated as it is the same outfit that had sent a threat mail claiming responsibility for the Mumbai and Jaipur blasts.

The group sent a 14-page email to select TV channels.

With the words “we are back”, Indian Mujahideen has laid out a charter of political demands which include release of SIMI activists held on terror charges while warning that non-compliance will invite fresh attacks, possibly even a repeat of the 7/11 bombings.

The Ahmedabad blasts were preceded by an email taunting security agencies to try and prevent the serial attacks, as was the case with the May 13 Jaipur blasts and the November 23 court bombs in UP last year.

In all these cases an email from Indian Mujahideen, under different IDs, was dispatched prior to the attacks.

A measure of the confidence of those behind Indian Mujahideen was the “tip-off” contained in the Jaipur email which said “mujahideen wait Modi.” Jihadi groups have ranked Modi and Gujarat high on their priority list with the recurrent “revenge” theme aimed at “settling scores” for the post-Godhra riots.

Describing themselves as “radicals of Islam”, they are, suspected to be a local front for Jihadi groups who have cooperated in terror strikes, calls for the release of SIMI members.

The email speaks of avenging the “Indore riots”, which had taken place after the J&K government’s decision to rescind allocation of land for facilities to Amarnath pilgrims.

It also “warns” Maharashtra CM Vilasrao Deshmukh and home minister R R Patil of “attacks on our masjids” and rounds off with a chilling “We wonder at your memory. Have you forgotten the evening of 7/11/06 so quickly and easily?’

The media has not been spared either, with email threatening The Times of India and Times Now to desist from their “propaganda” and “biased approach to news.”

TOI has highlighted the need to combat terror, as all other media organisations, offering the view that terror not only meant loss of innocent lives but also an erosion of trust between communities.

The clear-cut political agenda of “freeing” terror suspects and convicts seems aimed at demoralising the security agencies and paralysing the will of the Manmohan Singh government which is already on the backfoot over internal security.

The objective is to force a rollback of proactive intelligence collection and policing and pre-emptive action against radical outfits. The attacks and the messaging ties in the fresh resolve of the Pakistan-based United Jihad Organisation to step up attacks on India.

Clearly hinting that a “big offensive” could be in the offing, the email says that more attacks could be in the pipeline in UP. It says that Indian Mujahideen claims the sole responsibility for the Gujarat serial blasts and “request” other organisations like LeT not take “credit” for the attacks.

The preamble to the mail is couched in typical fundamentalist references to Islamic tradition, urging war on infidels with violent remarks about Modi, BJP, VHP, RSS.

The email spews hate towards other communities and offers the jihadist view that rejects democracy as being incompatible with Islam.

It is not known how the minister for home affairs would be surprised about the bomb blast wih shock?

Shakeel Ahmed asserrts: “This happened even after the government of India issued high alerts to all sensitive states.”

How is that the Centre is keeping quite, when there has been bomb blasts just one / two days before in Bangalore?

Ae the people of Karnataka and Gujarat are different from other states of India?

Are the killed have been majority Hindus and minority Hindus of Kashmir to keep quite?
